Almost 2 years ago, on 12/4/2022, I was 5.5 months postpartum and woke up with double vision. I called my neighbor across the street since I was home alone with the baby and didn't know what was wrong with me. I'd have my 2nd stroke while sitting on the couch next to her, the first one in my sleep. About mid 2023, I started attending a stroke support group through St David's in downtown Austin. Our previous group facilitator made an announcement about St David's having a team for that year's walk, and while staff showed up on event day to support, we didn't have a lot of folks from group attend.
This year, I took the initiative and started my own team. I'm welcoming members of my in-person group to join, as well as the fire department that responded to the 911 call the morning of my strokes. While Gtown Station 7 won’t be able to join as it’s out of their service area, any and all first responders are welcome to join me - I wouldn’t be here today without y’all!
I'm not requesting monetary donations at all here - I can definitely provide more information if that's something that you'd like to do, but I'd simply love the company on the walk. I am not 100% sure of desired mileage, but last year I did about 3 laps around the "track". Whoever attends is welcome to bring their kiddos, the fam, plenty of water, and free hands for the free swag they hand out at the vendor tables! T-shirts, backpacks (the cheapy ones with the strings for shoulder pads), you name it!

*According to AHA, most walks are 3 miles. Will update with a meeting spot once I can get an event map from the local AHA team!
