Coming together for self healing, fun and to declare our Energy Independence Day!
About this Event

The dirty energy economy — the extraction and burning of fossil fuels — continues to sacrifice those most vulnerable. Profit-obsessed corporations and the politicians who do their bidding use, abuse and discard our communities. In the Southeast, Southern Company has #usedandabused our communities and #discardedwaste like #coalash in our backyards with no accountability.

Now it’s time to take it to their front door. On Sunday, July 18th and Monday, July 19th we will come together to demand American Energy Independence. Join us as we bring healing and liberation to Black, Indigenous and people of color. There will be a community clean up, sign making, and yoga - and there will also be some disruption!

Sunday 7/18 we'll begin at Centennial Olympic Park at 1pm ET. There will be an Introduction to the Energy Independence Days of Actions, then folks will break out into groups for various activities and roles, and do some shared storytelling about how the climate crisis has impacted folks in their communities. We should be done around 4pm ET.

Monday 7/19 we'll go to the Southern Company headquarter offices for a rally outside to show our solidarity across the SE. Their practices have trashed our neighborhoods and we will not stand for it. Southern Company owns Alabama Power, Georgia Power, and Mississippi Power so it's important that we show up together and let them know how our communities feel about their polluting activities. (Time of activities TBD)
