American journalist and acclaimed author George Packer will share his insights into American democracy, the multiple crises and opportunities confronting democracy and the four different Americas at 4 p.m., Sept. 12, in the Rockwell Pavilion at the M.D. Anderson Library.
Packer will discuss his latest book, "Last Best Hope: America in Crisis and Renewal," which seeks to understand our current moment and offers a path forward for overcoming our fractures, injustices and divisions. His campus visit is part of the Future of American Democracy lecture series hosted by the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Center at the Hobby School of Public Affairs. Packer is a staff writer at The Atlantic covering American politics and culture and U.S. foreign policy.
About the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Center
The Elizabeth D. Rockwell Center on Ethics and Leadership at the Hobby School of Public Affairs was established in 2020 through an endowment by Elizabeth D. Rockwell to enhance ethics and leadership scholarship and programming at the University of Houston. The Center sponsors lectures, conferences, research, scholarships and fellowship opportunities and fosters cross-disciplinary dialogue about the ethical dimensions of policy issues and leadership challenges.

Enter the garage on Martin Luther King Blvd. The M.D. Anderson Library is near Cullen Performance Hall and Student Centers North and South. The Rockwell Pavilion is on the second floor of the M.D. Anderson Library.
