The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble will present “On the Road Again”, a concert that will get your motor running, on May 17 and 19. The first concert on Friday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. will be at Gray United Methodist Church, 2108 Oak Street in Gray, TN. The group will perform again on Sunday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m. in the Renaissance Center Theatre, 1200 E. Center Street in Kingsport, TN. Donations will be accepted at the door, with suggested amounts of $10 for adults and $5 for students, and doors will open 30 minutes prior to each concert.The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble (AMEn) includes singers from across the Tri-Cities region and is committed to engaging audiences through musical precision, passion, and commonality. With a dual sense of spirited fraternity and artistic excellence, AMEn aims to bring a variety of choral music to our community, and to educate, inspire, and entertain audiences through its activities. The ensemble is conducted by artistic director Dr. Noah DeLong and accompanied by Steve Sensenig on the piano.
This program will feature a wide range of songs inspired by cars and the open road. The ensemble will take audiences on a joyride with well-known favorites “On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson, “Little Deuce Coupe” by the Beach Boys, and “Drive My Car” by the Beatles. The program will also change gears with “The Vagabond” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus, and an arrangement of the traditional Irish blessing “You Do Not Walk Alone” by Elaine Hagenberg. Riding shotgun on this concert will be tenor soloist Chris Plaas and guitarist James West.
