Join the Archaeology Institute and the Graduate Anthropology Association for a morning of service at AME Zion / Magnolia Cemeteries, located at the intersection of A Street and West Brainerd Street, Pensacola. This volunteer cleanup day will focus on much-needed care and maintenance to help preserve these historic cemeteries.Planned activities include raking and bagging leaves, removing trash, trimming overgrown vegetation, and (weather permitting) light headstone cleaning.
Participants should dress appropriately for outdoor work and the weather. Boots or closed-toed shoes are strongly recommended due to fire ants, and gloves are encouraged (a limited number will be available). Please be aware that many overgrown plantings include thorny vegetation.
Water and snacks will be provided!
All are welcome to join us for this hands-on opportunity to care for an important part of Pensacola's past! Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Parking is best along Brainerd, B, or Gonzalez Streets.
Contact UWF Archaeology Institute's Jennifer Melcher ([email protected] or 850-857-6326) for questions or more information.
