The Amarna Pharaohs--including Akhenaten, Nefertiti, Tutankhamun, and Ay--were erased from Egyptian records by Pharaoh Horemheb (1319-1292 B.C.E.). Monumental inscriptions were altered to show Horemheb as the direct successor to Amenhotep III, to hide the existence of the Amarna Pharaohs.Interestingly, the Jewish calendar, compiled from various sources, was established around 300 A.D. from all sources available, declaring that the Exodus happened 1313 B.C.E. Egyptologists agree that this year falls within the reign of Horemheb. Although the scholars who established the calendar were unaware of the then-forgotten Amarna period, they maintained a record of the years since the Exodus as a matter of national history. That fits with the name of the Pharaoh of the Exodus not being known until the discovery of Tutankhamun and the pharaohs of the late Eighteenth Dynasty in the 1800s A.D. and the recovery of the ancient Jewish dates.
The Exodus may represent the departure of loyal subjects of Akhenaten and Queen Nefertiti who refused when ordered to return to Egypt's traditional capitals after the Amarna period. Was it Horemheb that Moses negotiated with so the monotheistic believers in the Aten's supremacy could leave Amarna, rather than abandon their new beliefs and be forced to reintegrate into pre-Amarna Egyptian society?
