About this Event
Courage in Change
Amani Hikes is proud to be heading back to Shenandoah for another year! Just like last year, some of our hikers will stay the entire weekend while others will join us for the main day’s hike and picnic afterwards.
This year, we’ll be hiking Mary’s Rock, one of Shenandoah’s most beloved trails.
Trail details:
- Trailhead: Panorama parking area at Thornton Gap Entrance (mile 31.6 on Skyline Drive)
- Distance & Elevation: About 3.7 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 1,200 feet
- Difficulty: Moderate — steady uphill climb with opportunities to rest along the way
- Time: Typically 2–3 hours depending on pace
- Highlights: Wide, open views from the summit of the Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive, and surrounding Blue Ridge peaks; a rocky outcrop that’s perfect for photos and group reflection
- Fun fact: Mary’s Rock is surrounded by legend—some say it was named for Francis Thornton’s wife, Mary, while others believe it was his daughter. Either way, it remains one of Shenandoah’s most iconic overlooks.
At the top, we’ll enjoy the breathtaking views together before gathering for a picnic—a chance to pause, breathe, and share community.
If you’re interested in staying for the weekend, please email us for more details about accommodations, meals, and group activities.
We’re looking forward to another meaningful and refreshing experience together in Shenandoah!
