About this Event

School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Amalgam Thread,” a group exhibition featuring artwork from four artists and alumni of SVA’s Artist Residency programs. The exhibition will be on view from Thursday, June 1, 2023, through Thursday, June 8, 2023 at SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 West 21 Street, New York City.

"Amalgam Thread" features works by Gregg Yupanki Bautista, Zoë Elena Moldenhauer, Ami Park, and Carol Paik. Each artist in the exhibition utilizes a physical thread as a prominent element in their work, employing materials and techniques traditionally associated with crafts, such as hand embroidery, weaving, collage and textile work. These techniques are practiced with a variety of materials, including recycled garments, cotton, rope, found objects and various fibers. Throughout the exhibition, the artists shared utilization of thread creates a cohesive visual and material connection, while also serving as a metaphorical reminder of their bond as former residency participants.

SVA’s Artist Residencies offer artists, designers and creative thinkers time, space and a supportive community in which to develop ideas and focus on their artistic direction, with summer programs on campus in New York City, as well as year-round in online formats.
