In celebration of Alexandria's 275 anniversary and as part of the warm-up to this June's ALX Jazz Fest on Friday June 21 from 6-9pm, the Office of the Arts is proud to host this jazz event as part of the "ALX Jazz Fest Pop-Up" series at the Alexandria Arts Alliance's Party for the Arts.
Featuring jazz music, poetry, art activations, and more, the ALX Jazz Fest Pop-up Series celebrate our neighborhoods and music. Part of the ongoing effort by the City of Alexandria's Office of the Arts to bring arts and community events to all Alexandria residents.

Featuring the music of the Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble (VTJE)
4 - 4:45 PM AT THE BUILDING 11 STAGE
The Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble (VTJE) is Virginia Tech's premiere large jazz band. Under the direction of Dr. Jason Crafton, the ensemble has shared the stage with musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Byron Stripling, Nadje Noordhuis, and Dick Oates. The band's 2015 album "Another Reason to Celebrate: The Music of Don Pullen" honored Roanoke jazz legend Don Pullen and was awarded the Albert L. Sturm Award for Excellence in the Creative Arts.
VTJE alumni have gone on successful careers as professional musicians and music educators, as well as engineers, architects, and healthcare professionals. All VTJE performances are supported by the James Bohland Excellence Fund.
