"Part comedy show, part Broadway cabaret, part motivational talk - and ALL fun!”
Join local San Diego actor Alyssa Anne Austin as she pays homage to Broadway's beloved “second bananas” in her premiere one woman-show, Always a Banana, Never the Bride: An Ode to Broadways "Lesser Ladies," this October!
Packed with songs from classic Broadway shows like Chicago, She Loves Me, Wicked, Guys & Dolls, Kiss Me Kate and more, Always a Banana celebrates and shines a spotlight on some of our favorite “lesser ladies” to make the case that we don't NEED to fit ourselves into any sort of mold to be successful, happy, or memorable.
With music direction and accompaniment by Richard Dueñez Morrison, this show will have you singing, laughing, and maybe even making a few powerful personal discoveries along the way!
This show is one-weekend only, with three chances to see it:
Saturday 10/22 at 2:00 pm
Sunday 10/23 at 2:00 pm
Monday 10/24 at 7:00 pm
All performances will take place at OB Playhouse (4944 Newport Ave, San Diego, CA 92107).

About Alyssa
Alyssa Anne Austin is an Actor, Author, and Creative Entrepreneur. As a commercial and theatre actor, she has worked throughout San Diego, including at Cygnet Theatre, San Diego Musical Theatre, San Diego REP, Oceanside Theatre Company, ion theatre, Coronado Playhouse, OB Playhouse, and LEGOLAND California, as well as numerous on-camera projects.
When not performing, Alyssa is passionate about helping others discover and use their unique gifts. She primarily does this as a Personal Branding Strategist & Career Mentor through her company, PoisedandProfessional.com, which she founded in 2018 after leaving behind a seven-year career in digital marketing. A published author, Alyssa’s first book, “35 Days of Confidence: Find Your Voice, Fulfill Your Dreams & Focus Your Inner Power” became an Amazon best-seller in February 2019. She also serves as a Board Member of the San Diego Performing Arts League, an organization dedicated to supporting performing arts organizations in the San Diego area. Alyssa graduated from Penn State University with degrees in Public Relations & English Literature, and is a proud alumni of the Penn State Lionettes Dance Team.
About Richard
Richard Dueñez Morrison is a music director and voice teacher based in San Diego. He is the resident music director at San Diego Musical Theatre, and an adjunct professor of musical theater at San Diego City College. Other local work: The Old Globe, Cygnet Theatre, Moonlight Stage Productions, San Diego Opera, Diversionary Theatre, Coronado Playhouse, Starlight Musical Theatre, San Diego Junior Theatre. New York/regional: Radio City Productions, Goodspeed Musicals, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, New York University, Indiana University. Richard holds a master’s degree in Musical Theater from San Diego State University and a bachelor’s degree in Stage Management from Webster University.
