About this Event
Alvin Ailey was a Black American dancer, choreographer, and activist who encouraged his dancers to use their own expression within his choreography much like a jazz musician. In 1958 he founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre which was and is dedicated to uplifting the African American Experience, and preserving the legacy of Modern Dance. Join professional instructors from the Abigail Dance Studio in Detroit for a two session introduction to Alvin Ailey. Each session will feature a short history lesson about Alvin Ailey and the dance company, as well as a hands on dance lesson. This program is intended for children and teens.
