About this Event

Is it my vocation or am I just a mug? Will my principles pay my bills? Do progressive labour practices mean progressive work? Can a crisis prone industry ever provide worker stability?
The image of the architectural worker is a tired one. Defined by its long hours with low to no pay and ego driven bosses, the working landscape often feels bleak. Student dreams are quickly retired as you become a young worker, questioning if this is really what you signed up for. But as union power and alternative, worker-led business models begin to shine through the cracks, is the future of built environment labour ultimately on the right track? - and does it have the capacity to change the nature and outcome of the work we do for the better? Armed with a cocktail in one hand and a placard in the other, Alternative Practice re-groups for a discussion on the future of work.

We will be hosted by Whitby Wood Engineers based on Lower Marsh in Waterloo. The venue has a lift but please get in contact to discuss any access requirements.

Alternative Practice is a community of students and young workers interested in challenging the boundaries of built environment discipline.
