About this Event

Calling All Trail Lovers!

Come volunteer with LA County Parks and help us improve the Altadena Crest Trail that has been damaged by winter rains. Traversing a number of different environments, this historic regional multi-use trail runs 5.5 miles along and through the border of the Angeles National Forest, providing an elevated view of the city below, with several access points along the way.

We'll be improving a portion of the western end of the trail, starting from the trailhead at Loma Alta Park.

The event starts at 9:00 a.m. Park at the northeast parking lot off Sunset Ridge Road. If the lot becomes full, street parking is available (see map below).

Volunteer Activities:
Winter rain has caused extensive damage to LA County trails, including flooding, landslides, significant trail erosion, and rutting. While the rain has been great for thirsty plants in our parks and natural areas, rain has also eroded trails and has led to an explosion of invasive weeds. These weeds are covering trails and choking out native plants. When weeds dry out in the hot summer months, they become a fire hazard. We need your help to reduce W**d growth along our trails and to improve trail drainage.

Activities will include:

• Removing invasive weeds harming native habitat

• Pruning and cutting back overgrown vegetation covering the trail

• Repairing the trail surface to improve safety and drainage
