More about the book: Alta and Little Cottonwood Canyon: Jewel of the Wasatch Mountains is a hard-cover, coffee table book of fine art photography with essays by twelve authors and ten photographers. Authors include Laura Briefer, Brad Barber, Ralph Becker, Ayja Bounous, Bruce Tremper, Cassie Dippo, and Allison Jones. Photographers include Howie Garber, Stephen Trimble, Bruce Tremper, Robert Athey, Mary McIntyre, Louis Arevalo, and Mimi Levitt.
The goal of this collaboration is to showcase the natural areas and watershed of Alta and Little Cottonwood Canyon and to protect these jewels from the proposed gondola. Photographs also highlight the diversity of recreation and wildlife, the history of skiing, and wilderness creation.
The project coordinator is Howie Garber, whose previous book, Utah’s Wasatch Range: Four Season Refuge won a Silver Medal Ben Franklin award from the Independent Book Publishers in 2014. Howie’s clients have included National Geographic, Nikon, Newsweek, Alaska Magazine, New York Times, and Patagonia. Howie has compared the beauty of Little Cottonwood to Yosemite National Park. The canyon is a jewel that should be preserved and protected from interference by commercial interests.
