The Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series presented by the North Tahoe Chamber, continues on Friday, 1/23, with Mike Hattrup's presentation of “From Red Square to White Peaks”. Attend the event in person at the Palisades Tahoe Olympic Village Event Center, or tune in via the livestream on Alpenglow Sports’ Youtube channel. Either way the show is FREE and all ages are encouraged to participate. The nonprofit beneficiary of the evening is Tahoe Waterman Foundation.
For the third show of the season, highly accomplished skier and industry leader, Mike Hattrup is taking the stage to present, “From Red Square to White Peaks”, through which he will blend classic ski imagery with the adventure of traveling to Russia, the land of fire and ice. Beginning in Moscow, exploring Red Square and the Kremlin, and ending in Kamchatka with some of the best, and worst, skiing Mike’s ever experienced, his presentation will make you feel like you’re both in a spy movie, and a Warren Miller film.
Despite growing up in Seattle, and having access to plenty of world class volcano skiing—Rainier, Hood, Adams, St. Helens, Shasta, Lassen—nothing could have prepared Mike for the Kamchatka, a peninsula that contains more than a third of all volcanoes on the Pacific Rim, is home to Russia’s largest geothermal plant, and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As an AMGA Certified Ski Guide Mike has skied in the European Alps, Norway, Japan, Greenland, Canada, and more, yet his time in Russia has cemented itself as one of the most influential times in his career.
Doors open at 6pm so that attendees can engage with sponsors and brands in the outdoor industry, purchase dinner from MOGROG Rotisserie, enjoy beer and Hoppy Hour from Alibi Ale Works, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks at the bar, and purchase raffle tickets.
Thanks to the event and Mike’s sponsors, there will be TWO epic giveaways! The in-person raffle will be for all attendees who purchase tickets at the event, while the online giveaway is for all tuning in from afar and anyone who purchases online tickets. The prizes for each are different and you can enter BOTH! All in-person winners and the top three online winners will be drawn right before the show. The remaining four online winners will be drawn and displayed right after the event. All online winners will be contacted via email the Monday following the event.
