About this Event
Dear everyone,
My name is Sabine, and I founded Future Based in 2018. In addition to my work with Future Based, I also teach philosophy at ArtEZ in Arnhem. This semester, I’ve been guiding my students through discussions about solidarity—what it means, why it matters, take into consideration opposite perspectives, and how to approach acts of solidarity with softness and respect.
Lately, however, I’ve been feeling frustrated with the news, the rapid judgments, and the growing polarization in politics. I am also concerned, and it affects me deeply when groups of people no longer feel safe and welcome (in their country!) Perhaps the solidarity course I’ve been exploring with my second- and third-year students sparked an idea: I want to contribute, in my own way, to addressing this polarization.
Lately, however, I’ve been feeling frustrated with the news, the rapid judgments, and the growing polarization in politics. I am also concerned, and it affects me deeply when groups of people no longer feel safe in their country (they grew up in.) Perhaps the solidarity course I’ve been exploring with my second- and third-year students sparked an idea: I want to contribute, in my own way, to addressing this polarization.
So, last Friday, I decided to organize something small—a gathering where we can eat, talk, and create together. A simple, open space for exchanging thoughts, person to person. I wasn’t sure where or how to make it happen, but thanks to the amazing people around me, everything quickly fell into place.
I’m thrilled to invite you to a cozy gathering on December 1st from 14:00 to 17:00 at Loes Bonekamp's studio: Sonsbeeksingel 147, Arnhem, The Netherlands. The event will feature board games, philosophical discussions, a wall for sharing your thoughts, a communal embroidery project, and a space for knitting. Everyone will bring something to share in a potluck-style meal.
My hope is to bring together as many nationalities as possible, creating opportunities to exchange stories and ideas—even for just a brief moment, even in small ways—person to person. I want this gathering to offer a contrast to the noise and divisiveness of politics.
If you’d like to join us, please let me know by reserving a ticket. Attendance is free, but I kindly ask you to bring something to contribute—a dish or treat from your culture, a board game, or simply an open mind and a good conversation. We’ll have access to a large kitchen and a beautifully set table with vintage cutlery and plates.
I look forward to seeing you there!
All the best,
Sabine
