Dr. Holly Bik is a deep-sea biologist, whose research group uses genomics and cutting-edge computational tools to study the ecology and evolution of marine microbial eukaryotes in benthic habitats (with an emphasis on free-living nematodes and their host-associated microbiomes). She was an early adopter of eDNA metabarcoding approaches applied to marine ecosystems, and has made significant contributions to molecular phylogenetic frameworks for Phylum Nematoda. Dr. Bik is Associate Director of the Institute of Bioinformatics (IoB) at the University of Georgia, and Associate Professor in the Department of Marine Sciences (with a joint appointment in the IoB). She is the recipient of a 2025 Kavli Fellowship from the National Academy of Sciences and a prestigious CAREER award from the US National Science Foundation.
