We invite you to join us for an evening of celebration at Yagan Mia – Wireless Hill Museum for a special launch event of Allegorical Threads- Stories of journeys from Malaysia to Australia. As part of the #IOTA24 international festival, this unmissable exhibition showcases the exquisite hand-crafted textiles and painted sarongs by Malaysian artist - Chang Yoong Chia.
During his residency with the City of Melville in May 2024, Yoong Chia listened to the stories of migrants to WA with the themes that emerged from this experience – informing this body of work.
Yoong Chia’s exhibition weaves traditional craft with contemporary stories of local diaspora.
This exhibition is proud to be a part of the IOATA24 Festival, supported by Lotterywest.
This year’s theme ‘Codes in Parallel’ investigates the multi-various languages codified in contemporary craft.
