ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE: the Black Panthers' Ten-Point Program's Legacy

You are invited to connect with a community dedicated to remembering, uplifting, and preserving the voices that have shaped our shared history. This February, join us for a series of events honoring the Black Panther Party’s manifesto for justice and equality, which remains as relevant today as when it was written in 1966.

Join Mr. Kent Ford, founding member of Portland's chapter of the Black Panther, along with special guests, as we celebrate The Black Panther Party's Legacy of grassroots coalition building and survival programs, with a special emphasis on Point Number 10: We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace.

PART ONE (Open to the public) 2-4:30 pm

Point Number 10 – A panel discussion between Mr. Ford and historians, activists and educators reflecting on The Party’s resistance efforts and the ties to current events. Our discussion will reflect on Malcom X’s 1964 quote: “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

Sting Like A Bee – Screening of the Vanport Mosaic-produced short documentary. (Producers: Lisa Serrano, Donovan Smith, and Mohammed Alkhadher; Executive Producer: Laura Lo Forti)

Remembering the Legacy of Portland’s Black Panther Party – A narrated slide show presentation by Mr. Ford from his personal archive, providing historical context and sharing personal memories of the Panthers’ revolutionary activism and community organizing.

Arrive early to explore informational tabling by local individuals, grassroots groups, and cultural institutions committed to social justice and advancing our community.

PART TWO (For Black or/and Indigenous Guests Only) 6-8:30pm

Black and Indigenous Solidarity Dinner and Story Share— Limited seats available!

Real foods create real energy for real change. Master Artist Michael Bernard Stevenson Jr. and Joshua Hood present a dinner inspired by Black and Indigenous food ways. During a shared meal, facilitators and invited guests will share stories pertaining to Point 10. An empathetic investment in food, land and water is key in liberating the mind. As Huey P. Newton said, "Educate to liberate."

In partnership with the Oregon Historical Society, don’t miss the premiere screening of Walking Through Portland with a Panther: The Life of Mr Kent Ford. All Power!, a new solo play by Don Wilson Glenn, directed by Damaris Webb and featuring La’Tevin Alexander, with film direction by Nora Collie

Celebrating the legacy of Mr Kent Ford, co-founder of Portland's chapter of the '60s-era black empowerment organization, this newly commissioned solo play incorporates archival footage and storytelling to understand the legacy of local resistance, rediscover lost neighborhoods where the Panthers used to patrol, and learn the intimate makings of unsung leaders of protest and revolution. Join us after the screening for a discussion with Mr Kent Ford and collaborators.
