To celebrate the beginning of spring, and the triumph of good over evil, we will fill your world with immense colours and sounds as you take an unforgettable journey to experience Holi! Best known around the world for pictures of revellers covered in powder, Holi leaves festival goers coated in a kaleidoscope of shades in the holy cities of Mathura and Vrindavan, as they celebrate the Divine love of Radha and Krishna.
This year we will experience the most authentic version of this revered festival in the heart of India, where two ancient and mystical civilisations settled around the Holy Yamuna River. Witnessing traditional prayers, visiting ancient sites, exploring the mysterious Nidhi Forest, and participating in the festival of colours, while hearing tales of ancient Hindu myths of love and the triumph of good over evil, is only the start. For on this Trekkup you can expect nothing less than vivacious crowds, vibrant colours, intense culture, infused flowers, and Holy prayers. It is truly one not to be missed, so let’s go!
DAY 1 // Arrival in Dehli
Meeting at Sharjah airport at 11.00 for a direct flight to Delhi that arrives at 13.00. After clearing immigration, we drive to the city of Vrindavan and check in to our hotel.
Day 2 // CULTURAL IMMERSION – ISKCON TEMPLE – PREM MANDIR
Today we spend our time exploring the local culture, traditional markets and ancient sites complimented by the myths and tales surrounding them. No doubt we will catch the start of a few Holi processions and tag along. We end our day with a visit to world famous ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) temple and watch a light show in Prem Mandir.
Day 3 // MANGAL ARTI – HOLI – MATHURA
Today we start early with the Mangal Arti aka the awakening of deities and considered auspicious for all who partake. It begins with the blowing of a conch and is followed by breakfast. We then check-out and drive to our next location to dive headfirst into the Holi procession, followed by a visit to the city of Mathura and its local market. Holi is celebrated in different ways across the various villages and towns in India, differentiated by the varying colours, the types of flowers and the way women symbolically beat, and chase away men, also referred to as Lathmar Holi – which is a re-enactment of when Radha and her friends chased away Krishna and his flirtatious friends. But keep your eyes peeled all the while, or you’ll miss the beautiful architecture of the temples all around. Covered in colour with an imagination full of stories, we head back to Delhi airport to catch our flight home.
