All About Syrah – Exploring One of the World’s Most Iconic Grapes
Syrah is a grape full of personality—sometimes peppery and savory, sometimes dark and plush, and always shaped by where it’s grown. From cooler climates that highlight spice and structure to warmer regions that bring out richness and depth, Syrah has a way of tasting like its surroundings in a really compelling way.
In this class, we’ll break down what makes Syrah so versatile, looking at how climate, place, and winemaking choices influence its flavor, texture, and overall style. We’ll touch on classic regions as well as a few newer expressions, giving you the tools to better understand what you’re tasting—and what you’re drawn to—when you come across Syrah on a wine list or shelf.
We’ll taste a thoughtful lineup that shows off Syrah’s range, with wines that move from fresh and savory to bold and plush. The class will be led by our friend Diana Schultz, winemaker at Augustina Cellars, whose approachable, engaging style makes learning about wine feel easy, social, and genuinely fun—no prior wine knowledge required.
