Kashmiri poet and singer-songwriter Alif presents a genre-agnostic musical journey in four chapters, each shaped by its own songs, moods, and hues.
Music that reaches in every direction has the power to connect, express, and transform. Staying true to its name, Kashmiri poet and singer-songwriter Alif’s ‘Charsu’ unfolds as a performance in four parts. Sung in Kashmiri, Urdu, and Hindi, the set blends stirring vocals with layered poetry in a genre-defying soundscape that is as visual as it is sonic.
Behind the name Alif is Mohammad Muneem Nazir, a poet and musician whose work draws deeply from the landscapes and lived realities of Kashmir. His writing, rich in metaphor and restraint, explores love, loss, and unity with lyrical honesty, transcending borders and divisions. Blending folk, pop, and rock with both traditional and contemporary instruments, Alif’s music balances purpose with simplicity, reflecting a rare harmony of neutrality and conviction.
With over 75 releases spanning singles, albums, and film soundtracks on labels including Universal Music, Zee Music, and Tiger Baby Records, Alif’s catalogue features celebrated tracks such as Ride Home and the Coke Studio Bharat hit Kya Karie Korimol. A recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival Award and the IRAA Award, Alif’s voice, at once soaring and intimate, wraps complex ideas in effortless songs. ‘Charsu’ reminds us that music, too, can reach out in all four directions at once.
