BLACKMAIL
(1929, 85 min)
First ever screening at Retro!
Here comes a thriller about a woman fighting off a sleazy blackmailer. “Blackmail” was Hitchcock’s first full-length sound film and was only his second foray into the suspense genre. Grocer’s daughter Alice White (Anny Ondra) kills a man in self-defense when he tries to sexually assault her. Her policeman boyfriend, Detective Frank Webber (John Longden), covers up for her, but she has been spotted leaving the scene by a petty criminal who starts to blackmail her. Based on a play by Charles Bennett and co-starring Sara Allgood.

MARNIE
(1964, 130 min)
First time screening at Retro!
Criticized at the time of its release, “Marnie” has since grown in stature as one of Hitchcock’s greatest and darkest achievements. Tippi Hedren plays a compulsive thief who cannot stand to be touched by any man. She also goes bonkers over the sight of the color red. Her new boss, Marnie intrigues Mark Rutland (Sean Connery) --- to such an extent that he blackmails her into marriage when he stumbles onto her breaking into his safe. Rutland is in his own way as "sick" as his wife because of his fetishist desire to cohabit with a thief.
Viewer’s Guide: Sexual assault.

PSYCHO: 65th Anniversary
(1960, 109 min)
A boy’s best friend is his mother. Hitchcock's landmark masterpiece of the macabre stars Anthony Perkins as the troubled Norman Bates, whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No one knows that better than Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), the ill-fated traveler whose journey leads to the world’s most notorious shower.

REAR WINDOW
(1954, 115 min)
None of Hitchcock's films has ever given a clearer view of his genius for suspense than “Rear Window”. When professional photographer J.B. "Jeff" Jeffries (James Stewart) is confined to a wheelchair with a broken leg, he becomes obsessed with watching the private dramas of his neighbors play out across the courtyard. When he suspects a salesman may have murdered his nagging wife, Jeffries enlists the help of his glamorous socialite girlfriend (Grace Kelly) to investigate the highly suspicious chain of events… ultimately leading to one of the most memorable and gripping endings in all of film history.

UNDER CAPRICORN
(1949, 117 min)
First ever screening at Retro!
Screen legends Ingrid Bergman and Joseph Cotten star in this lush Technicolor drama. Cotten plays Sam Flusky, a native Briton banished to Australia for murder. Bergman is his wife, Henrietta, the disturbed sister of the man Flusky was convicted of killing. When a new governor (Cecil Parker) arrives, he brings with him his cousin Adare (Michael Wilding), an old friend of Henrietta's, who sets out to help her conquer her demons and return her life to normal. But is Henrietta going insane, or is someone trying to drive her mad? Is she merely an alcoholic, or is someone trying to poison her? “Under Capricorn” is that rare film which captures the humanity of its characters while keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.
