Join me on a virtual tour of Alexandria Residence, located in Alexandria Park near Peterhof. It was a favorite summer getaway for Tsar Nicholas II and his family. This charming Neo-Gothic house, also called the Lower Dacha, was designed by architect Andrei Stackenschneider and built in the 1820s for Tsar Nicholas I and his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna, after whom it was named. Nicholas II loved the peace and quiet it provided, far from the hustle and bustle of St. Petersburg. The Romanov kids spent a lot of their childhood here, playing in the beautiful gardens and enjoying the nearby Gulf of Finland. The Alexandria Residence is a touching reminder of the personal, happier moments in the lives of the last tsar and his family before their tragic end.
