Saxophonist Alex Murzyn is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area where he spent thirty years performing, recording and working alongside artists including Huey Lewis and the News, The Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, Bobby Hutcherson, Delfayo Marsalis, Arturo Sandoval, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Pete Escovedo, Tito Puente, Sheila E, Stanley Clark and many others. He relocated to Santa Fe 4 years ago and since been very active as a performer and educator, teaching at New Mexico School for the Arts and performing regularly at Club Legato. He also performs regularly at Hotel Albuquerque and has performed many times at Outpost with Cal Haines’ Longshot Trio, the Bobby Shew Sextet, the Santa Fe Jazz Collective and more. Murzyn’s’ original music is heavily influenced by the classic Blue Note era records and his extensive experience with many types of genres, including rock, Latin and gospel music make for a unique musical voice. Just this past May, Murzyn’s latest album, Artrio-one, with pianist John Funkhouser and bassist Terry Burns, won Best Jazz Album at the 2024 New Mexico Music Awards. Tonight, he brings his hard charging quintet featuring Keenan Story, vibraphones; Cyrus Campbell, bass; Bob Fox, piano; and John Trentacosta, drums. $30/$20 Outpost Members.
