The Marianne Tobias Music Program is celebrating Black Music Month and will feature a special presentation by Aleta Hodge, author of Indiana Avenue – Life and Musical Journey from 1915 to 2015, on Wednesday, June 26, at 12:00 p.m. in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse.Indiana Avenue - Life and Musical Journey from 1915 to 2015 shares the music and sports legends from the famed Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis. One hundred years of African American family history and music (jazz, blues, gospel, bebop, Doo Wop, Motown, Opera, ragtime and hip hop) are presented with photos and maps of this musical mecca. Some of the musical legends include Wes Montgomery, Freddie Hubbard, J.J. Johnson, Slide Hampton, Angela Brown, Babyface, David Baker and Larry Ridley.
This presentation will focus on the life and legacy of trombonist J.J. Johnson, presented by the author, accompanied by Clifford Ratliff, trumpet, and Frank Smith, bass.
This concert is FREE and will be broadcast live and viewable from all televisions on the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, including patient rooms, on channel 17.
