Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.On Thursday, October 23rd, the first of a five-part series of lectures on the life of Aleister Crowley will be given at Alombrados Oasis, covering Crowley's early life up through the Winter prior to his reception of the Book of the Law at the age of 29. Subsequent lectures will cover Crowley's life in individual decades, roughly, to give a fuller portrait of his work, life, and evolving understanding of his own psyche and place in the stream of History. Aleister Crowley's life before he found himself inexorably tied to the Word "Thelema" and to the title of Prophet is an altogether full narrative in its own right, encapsulating the story of a young man drawn from the pits of Christian fundamentalism through to the heights of learning and romantic rebellion, and again into the abyss of social and pop-occult realpolitik, all banded together with a transcendental sense that his life persisted for something greater yet than he could imagine. Join us as we track Crowley's progress through the first three decades of his incarnation towards his assumption of the pinnacles of initiation, and be prepared to view the Young Prophet as you never have before.
Jedidiah Forrest Gainey has been a student of the works of Aleister Crowley from a young age, now more than half his life, and has been an adherent of the Law of Thelema for just as long. He brings his insight and synthesis of multiple biographies and sources to the fore in this series of lectures, crafting what he prays to be more clear a window to the soul, life, and times of Aleister Crowley than prior has been available.
This event will be simulcasted via Zoom, and a $15 donation to Alombrados Oasis is requested of both physical and digital attendees. Doors will open at 5:30, the Zoom will become available to join at 6pm, and the class will begin promptly at 6:15.
