19:00 =Alatriste , 2006, Spain, Dir:Agustín Díaz Yanes , 145 mins, Spanish Language with English subtitles//The story takes place during the seventeenth-century Imperial Spain. Diego Alatriste is a soldier in the service of King Felipe IV in the War of Flandes. In an ambush by the Dutch, Lope Balboa, his friend and partner, is mortally wounded and makes a request that Alatriste promises to fulfill: to take care of his son Íñigo and keep him away from the profession of arms. After the war, Alatriste returns to Madrid to fulfill his promise and there he is hired along with another mercenary, the Italian Gualterio Malatesta, to K*ll two mysterious men who also arrived to Madrid.
The cast is definitely wonderful with special mention to Javier Cámara as Count-Duke of Olivares, Juan Echanove as Francisco de Quevedo, Eduard Fernández as Sebastián Copons and Elena Anaya as Angélica de Alquézar. The rest of the cast is pretty good as well.
The music is gorgeous and a big effort was made to reproduce the atmosphere both in the filthy dangerous streets of XVII century's Madrid and in the opulent royal palaces and nobility's villas. Alatriste is definitely one of the best Spanish movies of the last years.
