ALATI is a trio led by Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding. They play settings of various poets, including Alice Oswald and Andrew McMillan, in both acoustic and electric worlds.
Tonight they will be playing their settings of poems by Colin Simms about the hen harrier, to launch their new single, 'birdsong #24', which is released with a video by Norwich film-maker Paul Thompson. Expect bucolic chords and minimalist patterns.
Individually, the members of ALATI have worked with trombonist Annie Whitehead and flautist Eddie Parker, as well as leading their own groups, such as Brigitte Beraha's Lucid Dreamers, Dave O'Brien's Porpoise Corpus and Chris Dowding's Moonrise Trio.
Support comes in the form of a solo double bass set by Hastings-based bassist Olie Brice, who is in demand as an improviser as well as working in more composed settings with saxophonist Dee Byrne. Come along for an evening of improvisation and poetry..!
