The Alaska Ski for Women is North America’s largest women’s cross-country ski event, with close to 1,000 Alaska women coming together to celebrate skiing in beautiful Kincaid Park. On the first Sunday in February, women of all ages and abilities- many in colorful costumes- come out to ski approximately 4 km (2.4 miles) decorated course. The event supports the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage and nonprofits working to stop domestic violence in Alaska.

Saturday, January 31st: Friends and Family Ski
The course at Kincaid will be decorated and open to anyone who would prefer to avoid the crowds and ski independently. Skiers of any gender are invited to register and ski the course – bring the whole family!
Sunday, February 1st: Main Event
Our timed events, costume contest, and party wave are back this year. Timed events are for girls and women only; all youth under age 12 are welcome to register and participate in the party wave. Anyone not racing is encouraged to volunteer and/or cheer!
Special Note
The 2026 Alaska Ski for Women will be happening no matter what Mother Nature has in store! Depending on conditions, the course may be adjusted to keep the event fun and safe. Thank you to Kincaid Park’s snow making equipment, we are fortunate to be able to supplement with human made snow when conditions allow. See you out there!!

ABOUT THE CAUSE
Why participate in the Alaska Ski for Women? This is not only a FUN event, it is a FUNdraising event! The Alaska Ski for Women supports the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage and Alaska non-profits working to end the cycle of domestic violence in our community. See the grants section for information about how proceeds from the evetn are granted each year to local nonprofits, read about our current grantees, and review application information.
History: The Alaska Ski for Women (ASFW) was started in 1997 by the event’s Founding Mothers: Sally Burkholder and the late Ann Mize. Ann and Sally, both very accomplished skiers, noticed a lot of women frequently used our world-class Anchorage ski trails but did not come out for local ski races. Ann and Sally set forth to create a fun event that would offer solutions to the problems women often encounter that hinder their race participation; for example, having no partner to ski with, course uncertainties, and unwaxed skis. The ASFW was developed for women to enjoy skiing with friends, the course is clearly marked and decorated, free ski waxing is provided, and it is a fun and relaxing atmosphere for skiers of all abilities to participate.
