Announcing the Alaska Overnighters: AI Edition! Join us for an electrifying night of theatrical innovation on Saturday, February 8th at 8 PM at APU Grant Hall in Anchorage.
This unique event showcases five short plays conceived, written, rehearsed, and fully produced within a mere 24 hours. In a thrilling twist, the topics for all the plays will be generated by AI, and one of the 5 writers will have their play entirely AI-generated, pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology in theater. Will you be able to tell which play it is? Here's what to expect:
• Five talented Alaskan playwrights will receive AI-generated topics at 8 PM on Friday, January 24, and spend the night crafting original short plays. 4 playwrights will write traditionally, and one writer will generate their play using AI, offering a fascinating (or perhaps frightening) glimpse into the future of storytelling.
• At 8 AM on Saturday, the casts will receive their scripts and embark on a whirlwind day of rehearsals, and by 8 PM, the actors will be off-book (we hope) and ready to perform these world premieres.
• After viewing the plays, the audience will vote on which play was AI generated, and then have the unique opportunity to talk to the playwrights and the creative teams about using AI and how AI impacts the arts.
