**Romani Balkan Dance Night**
Dan Cantrell
Alaska Lynch
Blind Lizard Balkan Band
Immerse yourself in music inspired by the Balkans, former Yogoslavia, Eastern Europe, Bulgaria, and from people who exist in between cultures. In the vein of the Romani people, who were often seen as Outsiders taking music of the local area, putting their own flair on it, and serving it back to the people, we aim to distill the melting pot of the Americas back into a distinct precipitate. People travel far and wide to experience new tastes, sounds, and explore new ways of being. Join us, fellow temporal refugees, for a night of euphoric melodies discovered for dance, and relish in the absurd.
**Dan Cantrell** - Emmy award winning composer
Dan is a multi-instrumentalist known for his innovative film scoring approach, and his virtuosic abilities on the accordion, piano and musical saw. New to LA, coming steeped fully in the Bay area Balkan scene, Mr. Cantrell will be playing original compositions influenced by Balkan and certain Eastern European melodies for your belly dancing pleasure. Be prepared to learn some simple line dances. He will be accompanied by Miles Jay on Bass and Noam Israeli on drums with potential other special guests.
**Alaska Lynch** – Mayor of Toontown – Poet Laureate of Gucci Emeritus
Mr. Lynch's style of music could best be described as Baroque Folk. Since he believes that the digitization of music is the work of Satan, he tends to work with organic sound palettes with the accordion, the fiddle, cello, percussion and heavenly back-up vocals. With wild-staring eyes and a blazing neon sign, he preaches about technology, consciousness, and his own life experiences, all while attempting to hold on to his own sanity. Alaska Lynch alternates between fiery sermons and the absurd, leaving his audiences wondering whether they should laugh or cry.
**Blind Lizard Balkan Band**
Blind Lizard is headed by accordionist Masha Mitkov who emigrated to America with her family from Ukraine under refugee status, growing up in the eccentric Slavic community of Portland, OR. They deliver striking songs from war-torn countries including ex-Soviet, Arabic, and Yugoslav backgrounds, in addition to originals influenced by these tunes and dipping toes into the American grunge space. Masha has also translated some songs into English, and into the tongue she made up for herself whilst coping with language confusion as an immigrant child. The ensemble includes Ravi Carman on Tenor Sax, Levi Downey on Alto Sax, Christopher Bell on Trombone, Sean Alexander on Bass, and Noam Israeli on Percussion.
