With three brand new albums on the famous jazz label Savant/High Note Records since 2019, and with two Grammy wins and two additional Nominations, master pianist Alan Broadbent brings new arrangements to the Arts Garage with his favorite bass player Harvie S. PERFORMER BIO:
Alan Broadbent and Harvie S originally met when they were students at Berklee College of Music. After School Alan left with Woody Herman Band and that was the beginning of a brilliant career. Ending up in California He was pianist for 25 years with Charlie Haden and on top of that winning Grammys for arranging.
Harvie S stayed in Boston for a few years and was summoned to New York where he played and recorded with many of the Jazz greats (Kenny Barron, Michael Brecker, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Eddie Henderson, Art Farmer and many more).
During that time Alan and Harvie would occasionally meet in NY and do some gigs and that led to a tour with Sheila Jordan on the West coast in which the CD of a live performance was released called “Better Than Anything”.
Around 2010 Alan moved back to the NY area and Alan and Harvie immediately started playing together and the trio with Billy Mintz was born and garnered three Cd’s on the High Note Savant Label with over 2 million plays on Spotify, 40,000 monthly listeners and top ten on JazzWeek Radio Charts.. They play regularly in NY at Dizzy’s, Birdland, Mezzrow and Small’s and tour world wide.
Of course during this time they have done many duo gigs and they seem to read each others mind. Their impromptu style, avoiding written arrangements and even rehearsals, succeeds because they are like-minded and share the same unwritten musical maxims. Broadbent has long been admired for the clarity of his technique, and here it amounts to a kind of joyful precision, always melodic but sometimes tricky, too.”
Two Time Grammy Award Winner, Four Time Grammy Nominated!!
Alan Broadbent is most well known for his arranging and piano playing with Natalie Cole, Barbara Streisand, Johnny Mandel, Charlie Haden's Quartet West, Shirley Horn, Paul McCartney, and Dianna Krall to name just a few. He is twice Nominated for Grammys.
Harvie S is one of the most popular bass players ever performing on over 400 albums, including 16 as a leader. His recordings and tours with Stan Getz, Pat Metheny, Chet Baker, Jim Hall, James Moody, Toots Thielemans, Shirley Horn, and many more are legendary.
