Pack a picnic basket, don your most fetching hat, and join us for an elegant Turn of the Century picnic among the roses in Old Alameda. And, yes, there will be dancing, as usual, from 1 to 4pm!Late Victorian or Edwardian costume (1890-1920) is admired but not required. As the August weather in Alameda can be very changeable, we recommend hats, shawls and parasols. "Rational Dress" and cycling costume is also welcome. Our location is the beautiful Lincoln Park at 1450 High Street, near the Rose Garden.
The event is not a general potluck. Please bring your OWN picnic lunch. As there are no available picnic tables in the Rose Garden side of the park, guests may want to bring blankets to sit on or even chairs and tables. Period-looking picnic furniture and accoutrements are very welcome and add ambience to the event!
From 1 - 4pm our wonderful vintage dance band Greenwich Mean Time will play an afternoon of dance music from the 1890's and early 1900's, including lots of waltzes, mixers, set dances (which will be called and prompted), and even some scandalous Ragtime! Since we'll be dancing out-of-doors we recommend dance sneakers or sturdy shoes if you plan to dance.
There are no tickets, no admission list, and no cost. Just show up and enjoy a period picnic with us! It's a shady park but for the best picnic spots, come early.
Donations to our wonderful and hard-working band would be gratefully accepted.
