Tickets: $15 at thecarrcenter.org In collaboration with the Carr Center, join the Detroit Based, 3x Billboard charting, 7x national prize winning Akropolis Reed Quintet for an evening of "sheer musical imagination" (Gramophone) as a part of the quintet's annual Together we Sound contemporary music festival. This concert features 5 world premiere works by students of Cass Tech, Detroit School of Arts, and Martin Luther King, Jr. high schools, composed specifically for Akropolis. Akropolis also commissions luminary living composers with support of the National Endowment for the Arts to create new works that reflect Detroit's past and present, including on this concert: Derrick Skye, Stephanie Ann Boyd, Jeff Scott, and Omar Thomas.
Celebrating their 16th season, Akropolis has “taken the chamber music world by storm” (Fanfare). Remaining the same 5 members since their founding in 2009, Akropolis delivers 120 concerts and educational events worldwide each year and has premiered and commissioned over 130 works by living artists and composers.
Since 2017, Akropolis has been in residence at Cass, King, and DSA high schools where they visit each school 20 times throughout the year, guiding students as they compose new works for Akropolis. Since 2017, Akropolis has helped over 50 Detroit students write new musical works, which Akropolis also records and releases as YouTube videos.
