Gain insights into the five most challenging poses of Ashtanga and delve into a movement meditation practice to refine your technique and discipline your mind. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or just starting your yoga journey, this Ashtanga workshop is an opportunity to deepen your practice and experience the true essence of this ancient tradition, all under the guidance of an expert teacher from the birthplace of Ashtanga Yoga, Mysore, India. Don't miss the chance to explore this transformative journey into the world of Ashtanga Yoga with Ajay Kumar.
Your Teacher Ajay Kumar
Ajay Kumar, a renowned Ashtanga yoga instructor based in the Lakshmipuram area of Mysore, India, embarked on his yoga journey at the young age of ten, guided by his teacher BNS Iyengar. Iyengar himself was a direct disciple of Krishnamacharya, often hailed as the "father of modern yoga." From that early age, Ajay made a profound commitment to the practice of Ashtanga yoga, and this dedication has shaped his life. Ajay's approach to Ashtanga is deeply personal, rooted in his own extensive experience with asanas. He leverages the insights and wisdom gained from his practice to offer a distinctive perspective on Ashtanga yoga. In addition to his yoga pursuits, Ajay is currently pursuing studies in Advaitha Vedanta in Sanskrit at the University of Mysore. Beyond his personal journey, Ajay runs Sthalam8 and serves as a respected Ashtanga Yoga Teacher in Mysore, where he shares his profound knowledge and passion for this transformative practice with others.

What Can You expect?
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Primary Series Mysore Style Class | 3 x 2 Hours
Ashtanga Vinyasa class taught in the traditional Mysore-style. Each student will go through the set sequence of postures in the Primary Series with each movement done in synchronicity with their own breath. During the class, the teacher will adjust the student where needed in order to help the student go deeper into the asanas. This style allows each student to go at their own pace according to their current level of ability with assistance and guidance from the teacher.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Primary Series Led Class (Counted Vinyasa) | 2 Hours
In this class, students will go through the Primary Series done to the traditional Sanskrit count as led by the teacher. This allows students to experience the practice as it was intended to be taught.
Surya Namaskara Workshop | 2 Hours
Surya Namaskar is the first sequence at the beginning of the Primary Series and is the foundation for all asanas that follow. This workshop brings students back to basics to learn this very important flow of movements. Students will also see how Surya Namaskar can be done from a beginner level through to that of an experienced practitioner.
Back Bending Workshop | 2:30 Hours
In the backbending workshop, students will learn the techniques to create strength and flexibility in the upper, middle and lower back as well as how to engage the whole body in a deep backbend. This workshop builds the foundations for strong backbending that can be taken through to more advanced asanas as the student progresses.
The 5 Most Challenging Poses in Ashtanga | 2 Hours
The below postures of the Primary Series tend to cause much difficulty for many students both new and advanced. This workshop offers a space for students to explore these postures where they can learn the technical means to approach the asana and also the preparation when the full expression of the asana is not possible yet.
Movement meditation | 1:30 Hours
Students are taken through one posture of the primary series, moving the body very slowly, meditating on each movement to train and discipline the mind. Attention is focused on breath, movement, alignment and drishti, helping students feel every part of themselves; mind, body, muscles, bones, nervous system. Moving slowly through the posture will remove any obstacles in the body. Injuries or blockages in the internal organs, muscles and bones will be fixed.
