Grammy Award nominee aja monet graces the SCADshow stage this October for a performance of her acclaimed surrealist blues poetry. Her debut album, when the poems do what they do, centered its thematic origins around Black resistance, love, and the inexhaustible quest for joy, earning a nomination for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album in 2024. As a community organizer, poet, and educator, monet has moved between mediums, each one adding an element to her writing.Her first full collection of poetry, 2017’s my mother was a freedom fighter, earned her a nomination for an NAACP Image Award for Poetry. She also received the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Award for Poetry in 2019. Her next full collection of poems, Florida Water, will be released by Haymarket Books in December 2024.
Tickets are $10 for SCAD Card holders and students; $25 for seniors, military, and alumni; and $30 for the general public. Tickets are restricted to purchasers aged 17 and up.
