AIWC members and their guests are invited to join the AIWC NAPLES WALK "ALLEYS OF THE SEDILE DI PORTO" on SATURDAY 29 NOVENBER 2025. This wallking tour will lead you through narrow alleys in and around the Sedile di Porto, one of the ancient districts of historical Naples dating from the 13th century, once a busy mercantile district situated near the ancient harbour.
Even today, along the narrow alleys and stairs around Via Sedile di Porto you can get a sense of the medieval city, despite the radical changes under the urban development plan known as the “Risanamento” of the late 19th century.
Starting in Piazza Bovio (also known as Piazza Borsa), the old Piazza del Porto where the Risanamento was launched in 1889, we will follow an itinerary along alleys of Sedile di Porto and the surrounding area, stopping at historic monuments and palazzi, accompanied by historical narration along the way.
If time (and energy!) permit, at the end of the tour we may visit the 38th annual Mostra di Arte Presepiale (exhibition of traditional Neapolitan cribs) at the church of San Severino al Pendino in Via Duomo (close to the Palazzo Filangieri).
