This workshop explores how Aikido principles can support and enrich Contact Improvisation, especially in moments of speed, pressure, and unpredictability. We focus on moving with forces rather than against them, allowing momentum to travel through the body with clarity and ease.16th - 18th January 2026

Through guided exercises and open exploration, we work with falling and rolling, learning to trust the floor and use the ground as a supportive partner. Key themes include:
* releasing weight without gripping or becoming heavy
* staying connected through the whole body
* finding stability without rigidity
Building on this grounded base, we explore how structure and flow can coexist in Contact Improvisation. Attention is given to:
* non-resistance and redirection of momentum
* shared balance and timing
* creative composition in duets and groups
This workshop is for Contact Improvisation dancers with some experience, as well as movers curious about integrating martial arts principles into their dance. The practice includes solo, partner, and group work, offering tools you can immediately apply in jams.
