AIKIDO, a traditional Japanese martial art, focuses on moving in, engaging with a threat, and helping it resolve while ideally keeping both parties safe. In this class, students will learn a series of techniques ranging from fundamental to complex that can help them not just defend themselves, but function as leaders in stressful circumstances. While Aikido focuses on movement, flow, and balance, instructors will incorporate elements of other arts -- including kickboxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu -- to help students explore a well-rounded expanse of self-defense techniques. Areas of focus include the use of strikes, joint-locks, and acrobatic rolling. The week's work will culminate in a demonstration event during which students can put their new knowledge to use and receive a certificate of completion from qualified instructors.
