Join us for the first in-person AIA Arizona Guess A Sketch! This promises to be a fun evening, just a few nights before AIA Arizona State Conference!

How will this work?

Somewhat like Pictionary meets Family Feud….

• Sketchers sketch.
• Guessers guess.
• Additional audience members enjoy the scene.

The Featured Sketchers will be quickly sketching a notable building, 2 sketchers at a time.

Teams of guessers—up to 4 people each on a team—will compete to be the first to guess the building being sketched.

• Form a team of up to 4 people with friends or colleagues. Register as a team!
• Team registration fee is $60.

If you simply want to watch and enjoy the evening

• Register as an audience member at $10 for members and $25 for non-members.

FAQ

How should I form a team?

Any company or team of friends is welcome to form a team of up to 4 people. Don't have four people or want something more collaborative? Feel free to start a collaborative team with another firm, your consultants, or even some of your clients!

Can guessers be coworkers of any of the sketchers?

Yes. Because the Featured Sketchers will be sworn to secrecy to not tell what buildings they might be sketching. They also don’t want it to appear like their colleagues have been “tipped off.”

Do the guesser teams need to be all AIA members?

No, but it would be great it if they were! Let’s put it this way: at least 2 of 4 on your team should be a members, as FAIA, AIA, Associate, or Allied. Add an architecture student to your team! Or maybe your smart client?

I can only put together 3 people for a team. Is that OK?

Yes! Minimum 3 people, maximum 4 per team.

How is the game played?

Each round, two Featured Sketchers will be provided with the name of a building that they have to sketch on large paper pads. Some buildings may be architecturally notable. Some may be historically notable.

Two competing teams at a time will see what the two Featured Sketchers are drawing and try to make their best guess. In true game-show style, each team will be provided with a buzzer and the first team to buzz-in and correctly guess the building correctly wins!

There will be rounds of guessing. How many? Depending on the number of teams, we will gauge how many rounds. This is the first time we are doing this in person!

The team that wins the entire tournament receives bragging rights for the entire year!

I just want to watch. Can I attend this event?

Yes! But only the teams of guessers will have a buzzer and will be guessing. Audience attendees are welcome!

Will food and beverage be provided?

Yes and yes! Plenty of hors d'oeuvres and beverages! And big thank you to Willmeng for hosting and providing complimentary valet parking for all!

Can I be a sketcher?

The Featured Sketcher lineup is set for this event. But if you have interest, let AIA staff know, and we will keep you in mind for when we do this again in the future. Featured Sketchers do not need to be great at drawing. It’s about being quick and having fun!

Can I watch online?

Sorry, this is all about the in-person experience this year.

Is fun guaranteed?

It is highly likely!
