Once at an AI conference there was a live show where the self-driving drone made a rather hilarious joke. Designed to work in challenging scenarios the drone swayed off course approaching the attendees of the event and crashing into the stand. Despite all these rehearsals the accident stemmed from software malfunctioning. It triggered a lot of questions about the necessity of having precautions and struggles arising from the application of AI in actual contexts. Of course there were no cases reported and the organizers reassured that they are striving to enhance safety practices. The event helped to open my eyes to understand that AI can be a great invention that is useful in society yet it can also be a threat if not controlled properly.
