About this Event
Join us at the Future Histories Studio, Floor 4, Staller Art Building, Stony Brook University for this engaging talk, Young Maeng, Professor of Art at California State University, Fresno, will explore the fascinating intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and traditional Korean painting techniques. As part of The Future Histories Studio series at Stony Brook University, Maeng will demonstrate how AI-generated images can coexist with traditional forms like Korean ink painting and acrylics, creating innovative new works that challenge conventional ideas of art and technology.
Attendees can expect an insightful discussion on the broader implications of AI in the art world, including how these technologies reshape human-centric perspectives, raise ethical questions, and offer fresh ways of thinking about the future. Maeng will also share her artistic process, revealing how she integrates AI into her work to visualize complex philosophical concepts.
This talk is ideal for artists, students, and faculty interested in the future of art and the evolving relationship between technology, creativity, and society.
Exhibition Opening – "Non-Human Ontology + AI Humanity"
The following day, on October 10th, Young Maeng’s latest exhibition Non-Human Ontology + AI Humanity will officially open at Unbound Gallery. This exhibition features AI-generated images blended with traditional painting techniques to explore philosophical and ethical questions about the coexistence of humans, nature, and AI companion robots. The exhibition includes an interactive Wishing Tree installation, where attendees can contribute their wishes for a future with AI companion robots, which are visualized in real-time. Through this innovative approach, Maeng offers a fresh perspective on the future of AI and its impact on human life.
