This prestigious college is a stunning neo-classical building in the centre of Cambridge, blending all the features of a heritage venue with state-of-the-art technical facilities.
The Conference will commence with a formal drinks reception in the Fellow’s Garden (weather permitting) followed by a sit-down dinner, on the evening of Friday 8th September, in the newly restored neo-classical Hall. Downing College prides itself on offering fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced produce. All special dietary requirements are catered for.
Dinner will be followed by after-dinner speaker Dr Sam Willis, author, a Fellow in Maritime and Naval history and a broadcaster (BBC, The Silk Road).
The conference, the theme of which is navigating your family history encompasses a broad spectrum of topics from migration, emigration and military research to navigating your way round local and national archives and the records they hold, will be held in the Howard Theatre on Saturday 9th September. It will include a programme of speakers and themed panel discussions.
It will be possible to stay overnight on the Friday or attend on the Saturday only as a day delegate. Downing College offers superb hotel-standard rooms (all en-suite) including a welcome tray, television and Wi-Fi.
Tickets go on sale on the 1st December 2022. An Earlybird package including dinner, accommodation and conference is available at the rate of £295 per person until the end of April 2023 after which the rate will increase to £320.00. A stage payment option is available for the Earlybird package with £150 paid on booking with the balance due by mid July 2023.
The delegate rate to attend just the Conference is £95.00 (includes morning and afternoon refreshments and lunch). The dinner only rate is £100.00 and the rate for accommodation and breakfast is £125.00.
