“You want to talk about the baby, everybody wants to talk about the baby, but I never saw the baby, so I can’t talk about the baby, because I don’t believe in the baby!” The evening’s prayers are interrupted by the screams of a young novice, Sister Agnes. She is bleeding heavily, and a new-born baby lies still beside her. The implication, it seems, is obvious, however the events that follow prove to be anything but. What follows is a battle between science and religion: rationality and faith: miracles and reality: innocence and culpability.
