Agama Tirta: A Religion of Water with Jean Couteauš Date: Thursday, January 15th
š Time: 7:00 PM
š Venue: Usada Bali, Jl. Sugriwa No.4, Ubud, Bali
In Religion of Water, Jean Couteau analyzes water as a central symbolic and ecological principle within Balinese religious thought. Beyond its sacred dimension, the talk examines how water has been historically articulated and how it functions throughout the Balinese ritual system. Particular attention is given to the ways water is institutionalized through temple networks and ritual practices, acting as an organizing force that mediates cosmology, social order, and humanāenvironment relations. Alongside this analytical framework, the presentation also weaves in lighter narratives and lived stories that offer accessible insights into the everyday meanings of water within Baliās spiritual ecology.
