Join Viva Farms, Cairnspring Mills, and Hedlin's Family Farm to discuss the post-harvest pathways for local grains.
About this Event

What happens after grain is harvested? This panel will bring together various representatives of the local grain industry–including a small-scale grain farmer and miller–to discuss the post-harvest pathways of local grains. Panelists will share insights on their experiences working with local farmers, as well as discuss storage, milling, quality requirements, pricing, and market relationships. This workshop is meant for Pacific Northwest farmers considering adding grains to their production plans and curious about the local grain supply chain. Following the discussion, participants will have the opportunity to tour a local mill, see post-harvest handling and milling in action and better understand how grain moves from field to food. This event is FREE, but registration is required. Simultaneous interpretation in Spanish will be provided by WSU Skagit County Extension.

This event is supported in part by the USDA NIFA’s Sustainable Agricultural Systems (SAS program) under award # 2021-68012-35955.
