Does your arty teen need a weekly dose of creativity that compliments their formal school art lessons?Come to Southern Maltings to join our new afterschool Teen Art & Craft Club every Wednesday with local teacher and artist Tai Christie.
Our first Half term has been fantastic, with our creative kids exploring mark making in printmaking, ceramic leaf bowls, looking at movement of coloured inks through water by making Jelly fish and collage.
One of our parents kindly commented “The after school art class has provided my daughter with great opportunities to be creative using high quality resources and materials. With Tai’s guidance, she has been able to extend and develop skills and has produced some beautiful pieces of work. She has been thrilled to create pieces that she can use at school to enhance work produced for her GCSE too! “
Tai has lots of exciting activities planned in the next half term and lets face it, its Christmas Crafting season! Amongst other things she is planning ribbon Christmas Trees and Felt Christmas Decorations.
Our weekly Art & Craft Club will create a space for your teen to immerse themselves in everything art and craft, learning new skills and techniques, having a go at different art mediums and exploring the work of other artists too.
We will nurture them to embrace their imaginations and creativity with a group of like-minded arty souls and help them find their tribe of creatives.
Tai has many years teaching all ages from primary school children through to teens and adults and worked for many years at Millmead Primary School in Hertford, running afterschool art, mindfulness and gardening clubs. She is a local artist who specialises in printmaking and silversmithing, now also running silversmith workshops from her home in Wadesmill. Tai has been teaching a number of workshops to both children, teenagers and adults over the Summer Holidays at Southern Maltings and will be returning weekly in September for these new clubs. Amongst other things teens and primary aged children (in separate sessions) will be able to learn the craft of printmaking, collage, drawing, painting, jewellery and other arts and crafts, with a different theme or artist inspiration each week.

This afterschool Art Club is suitable for older secondary aged kids and teens aged 11+ and will be run with a maximum capacity of 8 from 6pm – 7.30pm every Wednesday in term time. We are also running an Art & Craft Club for primary aged kids aged 7-11 at the earlier time of 4pm – 5.30pm.
Sign up for a free trial before deciding, or sign up for the first half term. Sessions after the first free trial are priced at £12 for 1.5 hrs and are payable in half term blocks. The current five week block is £60, running from Wednesday 6th November to Weds 4th December.
Both Art and Craft Clubs will be held in our lower studio.
We have a variety of children’s workshops in all the school holidays, including African Drumming, our craft café, macramé, and other seasonal workshops.
Southern Maltings is a beautiful historic building that volunteers are developing into an amazing not-for-profit arts and performance centre.
