Desperate to escape his mind-numbing routine, uptown Manhattan office worker Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) ventures downtown for a hookup with a mystery woman (Rosanna Arquette). So begins the wildest night of his life, as bizarre occurrences—involving underground-art punks, a distressed waitress, a crazed Mister Softee truck driver, and a bagel-and-cream-cheese paperweight—pile up with anxiety-inducing relentlessness and thwart his attempts to get home
*Before the film, we invite you to honor Chris Clark, our Artistic Director for the past 24 years. Chris has been a pivotal figure at Cinema St. Louis, greatly contributing to the success and growth of both our organization and the St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF). His profound knowledge, remarkable work ethic, and unwavering integrity have left an indelible mark on the hundreds of volunteers and movie enthusiasts involved. Chris’ dedication to artistic freedom and his reputable standing are woven into the very essence of our community.*
*Following the tribute, Chris will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his significant contributions to the arts. This award has previously been presented to luminaries such as directors Joe Dante and Oliver Stone, actors John Goodman, Kevin Kline, and Kathleen Turner, documentarians like Ken Burns and Albert Maysles, and St. Louisans Mary Strauss, Joe Edwards, longtime Cinema St. Louis chair Kim Tucci, and former executive director Cliff Froehlich.*
