About this Event
The COP 30 talks will fall short. We know that. But we need to review why and in what way and what can we do.
We have two speakers.
Nao Toru (often listed as Niall Toru) is a senior lawyer at Friends of the Earth UK, where he leads legal challenges against the UK government’s climate policies, particularly under the Climate Change Act 2008. His work focuses on using litigation to hold ministers accountable for failing to meet legally binding carbon reduction targets. He will speak about FoE's legal challenges to get the UK Government to deliver a Paris-aligned climate plan.
Bill McGuire is a British volcanologist and climate scientist known for linking geological hazards to climate change. He is Professor Emeritus of Geophysical & Climate Hazards at University College London and a prominent public voice known for his candid style and deep concern about planetary futures. He will be referring to his upcoming book The Fate of the World: A Deep-Time History of the Climate Crisis, which is described as a "warning and a rallying-cry" that uses historical climate data to provide context for present-day challenges.
